DVD Interface Research.

These are screenshots of the DVD menus of my chosen British Gangster films.

The Long Good Friday:



Evaluation:
  • Video playing in background.
  • Sound in background.
  • San Serif type.
  • Full Colour.
  • Four options on main menu.
  • Text changes from back to orange when courser appears on top.
  • Moving image for a few seconds when you move to a new page.
  • Seen selection page.
  • Extra's menu. 7 options plus a back to main menu.
  • Not very aesthetically pleasing pages.
  • Very sketchy and gritty.
Get Carter:



Evaluation:
  • San serif type.
  • Two colour background plus photo.
  • Four options on main menu.
  • Courser changes to a gun aimer when selecting a page.
  • Poorly considered layout.
  • Very plain and doesn't have any connection to the movie.
  • Scene selection page has a option to start movie/main movie/credits.
  • Special features page has 6 options plus a main menu option.
  • Also a language page.
Sexy beast:



Evaluation:
  • Moving image on background, Video or maybe stop frame ?
  • Sound playing in background.
  • San serif type.
  • Mix between real images and those that have a Saul Bass look to them.
  • Full colour.
  • Nice appearance. Simple but eye-catching.
  • Four option on main menu.
  • text doesn't react or change when you click above it. However a pink drop down option appears.
  • Scene selection has a main menu option and a next page option.
  • Extra features page has six options plus a main menu option.
  • Subtitle/audio page has has five options plus a play movie, main menu and resume option.
Layer Cake:



Evaluation:
  • Two video's playing in background. Moving around in a circular motion.
  • Behind video's is a black background
  • Full colour video's.
  • Sound.
  • San serif type.
  • Yellow text. Connection with yellow Range Rover and front cover to DVD.
  • Text doesn't change colour when cursor is above it.
  • Four options to main menu.
  • Moving image when you first select on page. Yellow moving box.
  • Four video's on scene selection page.
  • Courser interacts with scene selection by moving two yellow box's up and down.
  • Audio Option has a dripping paint affect that moves down to reveal a iron.
  • Sound of burning iron in background over sound.
  • Four options.
  • Four subtitle options plus a main menu option. Image of the gang together.
  • Works well as a dvd menu. has links to the movie. Well thought out layout. Simple and clean.
Lockstock & Two Smoking Barrels:



Evaluation:
  • Video playing in background.
  • Five Colour.
  • No sound.
  • San serif type.
  • Five options on main menu.
  • When courser appears on top of text the aimer icon appears next to it.
  • Subtitles page has 2 options plus main menu.
  • Interviews with cast has 3 options plus main menu.
  • 7 option on scene selection plus main menu.
  • Trailer option.
  • Very dated. Not ascetically pleasing.
  • Not impressed with the layout.
